Governor Schwarzenegger Proclaims March 19-25 "Women's Military History Week"

Throughout history, women have demonstrated their profound devotion to the ideals of our nation by risking their lives in defense of freedom. This week, we honor our nation's women veterans whose gallant service illustrates their deep commitment to this country.

As home to the nation's largest female veteran population, the Golden State is proud to acknowledge the noble accomplishments of our servicewomen. Even today, our women in uniform are fighting to make our world a safer place for our children and grandchildren.

America's military history is filled with women courageously answering the call of duty during our nation's darkest hours. From the American Revolution to World War II, these valiant warriors have enlisted in our armed forces to combat tyranny and preserve our way of life.

While words cannot satisfy the debt owed to our women veterans, I call on all Californians to come together this week to honor these remarkable heroines.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim March 19-25, 2006, as "Women's Military History Week."
